Hello, my name is Destini Chastain Shope and I am the Assistant Principal at Harmony Elementary School.
I am excited to have the opportunity to work with such an incredible group of students and teachers!

I am proud to say that I have been a part of the Pickens County School System since I was ten years old - first as a student and now as an educator.  As a 1985 graduate of Pickens High School, I am fortunate to be able to give back to the community where I grew up.  My teaching career began in 1998 at Tate Elementary.  Since that time, I have had the privilege to work as a paraprofessional, teacher, academic coach, and assistant principal.

While I knew in my heart that my love was teaching and children, I did not immediately attend college. I worked as a radio disc jockey (and still hold an FCC license to operate a radio station) while attending Pickens Tech (now Chattahoochee Tech) where I earned diplomas in Office Management and Informational Technology.  After graduation I joined the corporate world and enjoyed a great job in Atlanta, but still felt that something was missing from my life. It was then that I accepted the fact that no amount of money from the corporate world could take the place of what I was meant to do - and that was to teach and love children.

In 1999, I graduated cum laude from Brenau University where I earned a Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education. After several years of teaching, I returned to college and earned my M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Kennesaw State University. I am a member of P.A.G.E., a professional organization that promotes better education for the children of Georgia. Additionally, I hold a Teacher Support Specialist Endorsement.

My husband Matthew and I have two children. Jadyn attends PHS and Tyler is a sixth-grader at PCMS.  I enjoy photography, reading, traveling, camping, and being involved in church activities.  I am truly blessed to be a part of the great things happening at HES!
